Vs North Albury North
won the toss and inserted the boys who scored 8-105 in their alloted 25 overs
after being 1-0 after 2 balls. Stu Rixon (13) and Michael Blomeley (13) steadied
the ship and got the scoreboard ticking over and were playing well until a mistimed
cut found Stuart making his way back to the sidelines.
Sam Duck then proceeded to compile a very neat 38 to help post a competitive
score.
Will Ellwood put on a quickfire 14 in the last couple of overs.
With the ball, North were restricted to 73 for 6. Rory Muggivan and Eddie Moore
(1-5) both bowled smoke, with Andrew Dess (2-14) and Stu Rixon (2-10) capitalising
on their good work. The boys fielded very well putting plenty of pressure on
their opposition, with one very memorable one-handed catch being snared by Todd
Nelson. A good first up win by the boys.
Vs Wodonga Knights
Wodonga batted first and were in early trouble with Rory Muggivan (2-12) & Eddie
Moore (1-29) bowling a good first spell, having them at 2-20 after 10 overs.
Todd Nelson (3-23) & Stuart Rixon (3-15) kept the pressure on as wickets continued
to fall at a steady rate. Jake Hodges came up from the Under 14's to fill in
and bowled an impressive spell of 5 overs taking 1 for 9.
Some great fielding by John Seaton who took 4 catches for the match, but St
Pats let themselves down with some ordinary fielding at times. (They might look
at this area at training and put in some hard work to improve).
Wodonga were bowled out for 98 thanks to a good innings by C Mills (48). Wodonga
then had 5 overs at our boys and are right back in the match taking 2 wickets
thanks to a fiery spell from B. Hales (2-5) off three overs. The game is there
to win but some sensible batting is required. Scores : Wodonga 10 - 98 St Pat's
2 - 8
With 91 runs required to win a good start was needed. John Seaton (29) and Stuart
Rixon (29) did just that putting on a 63 run partnership, seeing out the opening
bowlers who last week had St Pat's on the back foot.
Sam Duck (66*) & Stuart then passed Wodonga's total and looked to be building
a big partnership before Stuart was run out. St Pats then lost 4 quick wickets
for only 20 odd runs.
But Sam Duck continued to bat well with some great placement & power hitting.
Along with Simon McKenna (11*) they batted out the remaining overs.
A good win to put St Pats on top of the ladder.
SCORE : Wodonga 10/98 St Pats 9/188.
Due to 5 players being unavailable due to other commitments and Lavington not
being able to play at any other time we will have to forfeit this week.
I would just like to take this time to congratulate Rory Muggivan & Stuart Rixon
who have been selected to represent North East Knights in the Under 15 State
Championship to be held over a week in Melbourne in December. Stuart was also
named Captain on the side. Well done.
